Brazil Media: USDT Issuer’s New Banking Partner Involved in Money Laundering
摘要: Prosecutor in São Paulo is seeking help from the Bahamas government to investigate Deltec which just certified Tether' account has a portfolio cash value of above $18 billion.
November7 (ChainDD) The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office in São Paulo is seeking help from the Bahamas government to investigate a Bahama-based financial institution Deltec Bank & Trust, according to a Brazilian newspaper O Globo on November 6.
ChainDD’s previous brief news said that in its announcement last week, the stablecoin USDT’s issuer Tether released a letter from Deltec that certified until October 31,2018, the portfolio cash value of Tether’s account of the bank was $1,831,322,828. And Tether said Deltec only accepted a client after their due diligence.
O Globo said the prosecutor in São Paulo believed that Paulo Vieira de Souza, former director of the São Paulo road infrastructure company DERSA, transferred a total of 25 million Swiss francs (about $25 million) to accounts of a Panama company Nantes Group, and suspected the funds finally transferred to Deltec. Therefore, the prosecutor hopes Bahamian authorities help it figure out whether Deltec accepted the laundered fund.
ChainDD noted that Vieira de Souza was alleged for bribery in Braizilian construction company Odebrecht case, which was called the largest foregin bribery case in history by the US Department of Justice.
